COBOL Functional Analyst – Insurance Sector

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Work Model: Hybrid (2–3 days per week on-site)

Languages: Native French or Dutch + good command of the other national language + English (B2)

Contract Type: Long-term mission

About the Role

We are seeking a COBOL Functional Analyst with solid experience in the insurance or banking industry, ideally within life insurance. You will play a key role in the enhancement and modernization of administrative systems, acting as a bridge between the business teams and the IT department.

This role combines a strong functional understanding of insurance processes with technical familiarity in Cobol Microfocus and SQL Server, enabling you to analyze, design, and support business-critical applications.

Key Skills and Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in banking or insurance domain

• Experience with administrative systems and customer or policy management solutions.

• Ability to design and document user journeys, UI concepts, and subscription processes.

• Experience in application development within IT departments (administrative systems).

• Strong understanding of Cobol Microfocus source code and SQL Server.

• Proficiency in MS Office tools for reporting, documentation, and analysis.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with web-based client/server systems using MF back-end (Cobol Microfocus / SQL Server).

• Knowledge of batch processing and Cobol Microfocus programming.

• Familiarity with .NET environments and SQL-based application logic.

Key Responsibilities

• Gather, document, and validate business and functional requirements related to administrative and insurance systems.

• Collaborate with IT teams to translate functional needs into technical specifications compatible with Cobol Microfocus / SQL Server environments.

• Contribute to the design of user interfaces, subscription workflows, and contract management processes.

• Participate in testing, integration, and deployment of new functionalities or system enhancements.

• Support the rationalization and improvement of existing Cobol-based applications.

• Communicate effectively with developers, architects, and business stakeholders to ensure full alignment.
